The human remains that was found behind a residence on Old State Road in Brandenburg on May 10 has been identified.
On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, Kentucky Medical Examiners Office in Louisville contacted the Meade County Coroner with a positive identification on the human remains that were found.
This person was identified as Cheryl Smalarz of Maple Grove Apartments in Brandenburg.
Cheryl Smalarz was listed as a missing person and was identified through dental records that were obtained through her missing person case.
The preliminary cause of death is unknown, butHuman there are no signs of trauma or foul play.
