A Hopkinsville man has been convicted of two murders after an investigation by Kentucky State Police.
On December 9, 2021, Kentucky State Police began an investigation after a deceased female was located in an abandoned vehicle on KY-124 (Cerulean Road) in Trigg County. The deceased female was identified as 34-year-old Candace Marcel of Hopkinsville.
The investigation into Marcel’s death led detectives to a residence on Clearman Court in Hopkinsville. A search warrant was conducted on the residence, and detectives located a deceased male, identified as 35-year-old Stanley Bussell, also of Hopkinsville. Bussell was the registered owner of the vehicle Candace Marcel had been located in.
Hopkinsville Police began investigating the death of Bussell as a homicide. As a result of both investigations, 49-year-old Bobby Spikes of Hopkinsville was arrested and charged with the murder of Bussell and Marcel.
On September 15, a jury trial began in Christian County Circuit Court and after four-days, the jury convicted Spikes of two counts of murder, two counts of robbery 1st degree, tampering with physical evidence, and convicted felon in possession of a handgun.
Spikes, now 53 years old, was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison without parole.
