
Indiana Governor Mike Braun signed House Bill 1250 into law on Tuesday (3/3).
The bill, requires the Indiana Department of Corrections to notify law enforcement and the county or community’s prosecuting attorney when they’re releasing a serious violent felon. Victims would also be notified, and must be at least seven days before the release.
The bill’s creation follows the murder of Evansville realtor, Susan Haynie.
The bill is effective starting July 1st, 2026.
