The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office will be switching to a private radio channel after the sheriff says disruptions on their channel blocked law enforcement from communicating with each other during an inmate’s attempted escape.
Sheriff Adam Wright says changes are coming after radio communications were disrupted as deputies were recently searching for an escape inmate this week. He said someone had keyed up a radio on the channel and prevented officers from having direct communication. Sheriff Wright said the deputy who found the inmate had to use his cellphone while holding the suspect at gunpoint. Sheriff Wright said the change is critical for officer safety.
An investigation remains ongoing related to the radio disruption.
