A Owensboro man was arrested after threatening his girlfriend and brandishing a machete at a Laurel Branch campground.
According to the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened around 8 PM Sunday (6/7), when 28 year-old Colten Sublett threatened the life of his girlfriend and attempted to drown her in the water for several seconds until she was able to escape and get to her car and then went to a nearby campsite.
Sublett came toward her and brandished a machete while making more verbal threats toward her. Sublett damaged the victim’s car and fled the scene in the wood line near the restrooms. Sheriff deputies were assisted by Hardinsburg and Cloverport Police, where the Hardinsburg K9 unit discovered the machete next to a trash can. After a lengthy search, Sublett was not found Sunday night.
On Monday afternoon, Sublett was reported on the front porch of a residence in the 10,000 block of South Highway 259. Sublett was apprehended and charged with attempted murder; assault 4th degree domestic violence, no visible injury; criminal mischief 1st degree; and disorderly conduct 1st degree.
