Louisville Metro Police officers arrested a 71-year-old Indiana woman in connection with a shooting that left two men injured in the Portland neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.
Marcia J. May, of Georgetown, Indiana, was charged with two counts of second-degree assault.
According to police, officers responded to a report of a shooting shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday in the 2100 block of Portland Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his back outside a local business.
While rendering aid, officers were alerted to a second man across the street who had been shot. He was found outside another business with a gunshot wound to his leg.
Investigators said surveillance video and witnesses helped them piece together the sequence of events. Witnesses saw a woman driving a white and brown vehicle open fire on both victims before speeding off. LMPD’s Real-Time Crime Center and store surveillance cameras captured the suspect, dressed in all black, shooting the first victim in the back. The video then shows her driving across the street and shooting the second victim in the leg before fleeing.
Emergency Medical Services transported both victims, who were alert and conscious, to UofL Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Marcia May entered a plea of not guilty and was appointed a public defender. The Judge set her bond at $100,000 full cash and Home Incarceration Program if posted. She is not allowed to have firearms.
May will back in court on September 4.
