Russell County Search and Rescue completed a complex rope rescue near the waters edge at Lake Cumberland after a logger fell nearly 200 feet Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on August 27 near the water’s edge in the Jabez area. Authorities report that an individual was struck by a falling tree, causing them to tumble down the precipitous slope and come to a rest just feet away from a dangerous 30-foot bluff.
Rescue crews quickly established multiple high-angle rope systems at the top of the embankment. Several emergency responders and EMTs rappelled down the cliffside to reach, stabilize, and package the injured individual into a Stokes basket.
Once secured, the patient was hoisted back up the 200-foot incline to an awaiting Air Methods helicopter crew, who airlifted them to a trauma center for treatment.
Multiple agencies contributed to the success of this rescue including Russell County 911, Russell County EMS, Faubush Fire Department, Nancy Fire Department, Pulaski County Rescue Squad and Air Methods.
