All charges against Leitchfield Police Sgt. Dennis Newton have been dismissed with prejudice.
Two years ago Sgt. Newton, with the Leitchfield Police Department, was indicted on several charges including Assault in the Fourth Degree with Minor Injury, Terroristic Threatening, Criminal Trespassing and Menacing.
The charges stemmed from his actions involving two individuals outside a Grayson County home that was on fire in June of 2024.
Body camera footage from the incident reveals a heated confrontation between Newton and residents Lannie and Daron Fentress.
Sgt. Newton did receive disciplinary action from the police department at that time and underwent further training. He was also placed on administrative leave. According to Leitchfield Police Department’s website, he is still an employee with the department.
After a two-day jury trial this week in Hardin County, he was found not guilty of Assault 4th Degree and Terroristic Threatening 3rd Degree. According to the court documents all of Sgt. Newton’s charges were dismissed with prejudice, meaning this issue is legally resolved.
