A Louisville judge ordered on Friday that Matt Bevin will remain in jail for the next 60 days.
The former Kentucky governor was arrested on an outstanding warrant while on a movie set in Bourbon County on Thursday.
Bevin was charged with contempt of court after failing to provide financial documents to his adopted son Jonah in their ongoing child support case.
Jefferson County Judge Angela Johnson’s warrant, filed in June, requires Bevin to spend 60 days in jail and pay a $500 fine.
During Bevin’s arraignment Friday afternoon, Bevin’s attorneys asked for Johnson to reduce his sentence or allow him to serve it out from home.
Attorneys for Jonah urged the judge to keep him in jail, saying he is no different than any other citizen and citing previous court orders Bevin has violated.
Johnson said she considers Bevin’s behavior to show an “intentional disregard” of her court orders.
“You have done nothing to show the court that you are willing to act in good faith and I cannot reward that with a reduced sentence or alternative sentence,” the judge continued, saying he hasn’t earned it.
She said Bevin would serve out the 60-day sentence, but added that she may consider revisiting the sentence after 30 days.
“But you will serve 60 days as of now,” the judge said, denying Bevin bond.
