Police have identified the man, who they say robbed a downtown bank Thursday morning and then hid underneath a car at a nearby garage, as 25 year-old Jeffrey Sykes.
Sykes has been charged with one count of robbery in the first degree.
The robber held up the Fifth Third Bank at Fourth Street Live! and was spotted running into the Hyatt Regency Louisville parking garage. The garage has 680 spots.
About 40 police officers and canine units surrounded the structure. Every exit was guarded while police searched the garage, mindful that the building connects to several hotels.
During that time, no one was allowed inside the garage. Drivers who were inside at the time of the search were escorted out. Guests at the Hyatt Regency were not impacted.
LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell said the robber presented a note at the bank demanding cash. He got away with an undisclosed amount of money.
Once the suspect was arrested, a police cruiser drove up to the second floor to take him away.
Police have not released any surveillance video.
