Beaver Dam citizens have opted to allow alcohol sales in the city. Residents voted Tuesday to legalize alcohol sales in the city’s first local option election in over a decade.
State law requires a 60-day interval before the election results are finalized and Beaver Dam officially becomes Kentucky’s latest “wet” city. Only then can individuals seek state and local licenses.
Due to its size, Beaver Dam qualifies for up to two liquor stores. Only seven restaurants in the city are currently eligible to serve alcohol by the drink.
Ohio County Clerk Bess Tichenor Ralph says the secretary of state’s office approved an election petition in order to allow the voting process to take place. Beaver Dam resident Michael Adkins began circulating the petition last spring.
