
Police have made an arrest after the daughter of Olympian and Lexington native Tyson Gay was shot and killed outside a Lexington restaurant early Sunday morning.
According to police, the shooting happened around 4 a.m. in the parking lot of a restaurant located in the 800 block of S. Broadway, not far from the University of Kentucky campus. Witnesses reported an exchange of gunfire between two vehicles.
Trinity Gay, 15, was struck at the scene and transported to UK Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Officers located one of the vehicles involved and detained two possible persons of interest for questioning.
Sunday evening the Lexington Police Department said it arrested 21-year-old Dvonta Middlebrooks in connection to the shooting. Middlebrooks was charged with wanton endangerment and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. According to his arrest citation, investigators determined that Middlebrooks was in the restaurant parking lot and fired multiple shots at the time of the incident.
Another man, who was questioned by police after the shooting, has not been charged. The incident remains under investigation by the Lexington Police Department.
