A jail in eastern Kentucky will soon offer a new mentorship program to help young fathers.
Inmates at the Pike County Detention Center can meet with mentors once a week to learn life skills, beginning in February. The program is aimed toward men between the ages of 18 and 23 who are sentenced to at least three months in jail and have a child at home.
Pastor Dave Hammond of Faith Baptist Church of Myra says he signed up to be a mentor because he knows what it is like to reach rock bottom and wants to offer the inmates a message of hope.
Pike County Jailer Freddie Lewis says the jail will also be creating a female mentorship program in 2017.
