Fire crews across the area were called upon to battle several field fires and open burning piles.
Around 7 pm Friday (2/17) evening, Meade County and Muldraugh Fire Department crews were called to an address in the 1100 block of Johnny Pack Road after a controlled burn got out of control from the resident. The fire put a couple of structures in danger after being reported as a controlled burn to authorities. Firemen worked a couple of hours to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported.
Other field fires were reported across Breckinridge, Hardin and Grayson counties during the past weekend. The Spring Forest Fire Hazard burn ban is in place until April 15 making illegal to burn anything outdoors within 150 feet of any woodland or brushland areas between the hours of 6 am and 6 pm daily. The weather conditions generally during this time of year help allow open fires spread quickly and engulfing areas with little effort.
If you plan to burn after 6 pm, you call your local 911 center to report your controlled burn.
