A Hardin County Detention Center inmate was captured less than nine hours after he fled while being moved from the work release center for medical evaluation, according to authorities.
Jake Wendell Embry Jr., 45, took off on foot around 5 a.m. Thursday south toward Glendale into a wooded area south of the jail. He was found and taken into custody just before 2 p.m. today.
Lt. Jamie Motter of the detention center staff spotted Embry on a bicycle near the intersection of Valley Creek Road and Hawkins Drive. He reported the sighting by radio and jail Lt. Robert Reynolds and Hardin County Sheriff’s Deputy W.R. Davis responded to assist.
Reynolds said Embry attempted to allude the officers but was captured after a short foot pursuit.
Embry, a state prisoner being held at the jail, was wearing the same blue hoodie, jeans and black shoes with white soles that he had at the time of his escape.
Back in jail, Embry will face new charges of second-degree escape, first-degree fleeing or evading police and resisting arrest. Reynolds said he could face further charges related to the stolen bike and other items found in his possession when arrested.
The work release center is a housing area at the jail for inmates classified as low risk.
