
Repairs and maintenance will begin next week on the Matthew Welsh Bridge over the Ohio River restricting traffic to one lane for several months.
North Star Painting plans to begin making repairs, sandblasting and painting at the Kentucky approach to the 3100-foot-long structure that links Harrison County, Indiana and Meade County, Kentucky, on Tuesday morning (JULY 25). Flaggers will direct motorists around workers and equipment while concrete barrier wall sections are set.
Once temporary signals are put in place, single-lane one-direction-at-a-time traffic will be activated by visual detection. A 900-foot-long section of State Road 135’s northbound lane is being restricted.
Indiana Department Of Trasnsportaton officials anticipate activities at the Kentucky approach will continue through September. At that time, operations will shift to the Indiana approach.
Next year, the 2-span mid-section over water will be repaired and painted.
State Road 135’s traffic count at the bridge is 5130 vehicles per day.
