A Nelson County man is facing numerous charges after he fled from police in Meade County Monday (11/6) night.
According to Muldraugh Police Chief Dale Harp, a Muldraugh patrol officer arrested 20 year-old Elvis Ray Reecer on an outstanding warrant in Muldraugh. Around 6:45 pm when the officer went to escort Reecer into the booking area of the Meade County Detention Center in Brandenburg, the handcuffed Reecer escaped custody and fled on foot from the rear of the detention center. Muldraugh, Brandenburg and Meade County Sheriff officers searched for Reecer a couple of hours before spotting him near a gas station.
During Reecer’s brief moments of freedom, he ran into a subdivision along Parkway Terrance. Reecer approached a residence and asked if he could get help or be taken somewhere but the homeowners declined to assist him. The home owner then called 911 and reported the incident to police. While on they were on the phone with police, Reecer broke into a outbuilding and used and used a saw to cut the handcuff chain in two. He then fled from the residence as police closed into the neighborhood.
After a short time, off-duty police officer Brian Hagg spotted Reecer along Broadway Street in a parking lot of a gas station. Officers came and arrested Reecer. He was taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown by Meade County EMS for minor injures related to the handcuffs. He was then lodged in the Meade County Detention Center on charges of a Bullitt County arrest warrant for failure to appear along with the addition charges of escape 3rd degree; fleeing or evading police on foot 1st degree; resisting arrest; criminal mischief 3rd degree; burglary 3rd degree; and theft by unlawful taking under $500.
Reecer remains in the Meade County Detention Center on a $5,000 full cash bond.
