
Members of Meade County Fiscal Court worked through a short agenda during their regular meeting Tuesday (11/14) night.
The court voted to make Fourth District Magistrate Gary Chapman chairman to conduct the business meeting of the court in the absence of Judge Executive Gerry Lynn. The court approved a proclamation of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day in Meade County on Thursday November 16. Magistrates heard a presentation of cancer related statistics presented by Lana Goodwin. The court approved the updated contract agreements with the county and Hardin Memorial Hospital in relation to their acquisition of the Jewish Hospital Health Center on Fairway Drive.
In other business, magistrates approved a committee recommendation for health insurance for county employees. The health insurance committee which is made up of department supervisors, recommended to keep current packages which will result in a ten percent rate increase for the county to pay. John Beavin, local insurance plan representative, explained to the court the rates also was based on a wellness perks program to encourage healthy living activities. He said the about half of the employee base was already participating with a additional rate adjustments would be impact if the goal of a seventy five percent participation was met in the near future.
County leaders approved a contract agreement between Meade County Solid Waste and Ham Hed LLC. of New Albany, Indiana to take the material from new curbside pickup routes. The agreement will begin on January 1, 2018 and will allow Meade County to keep seventy five percent of the proceeds of the material sold with Ham Hed to receive twenty five percent of the proceeds. The agreement allows the hauling charges to be adjusted on a monthly basis based of recycling markets.
The new recycling agreement also sparked the need for two additional employees at the Recycling center to create a second shift. Magistrates approved the advertisement of a full time and a part position for Solid Waste and a full time position at EMS. The court approved the board appointments of Tracey Huffines to the Family and Consumer Sciences board and Bob Stith to the Agriculture and Natural Resources board with the Meade County Cooperative Extension Service.
Fiscal court approved the use of Crosier Bottom Road for local car traffic only during construction on Kentucky 228. Truck and other heavy traffic will have to use a alternate detour during the closure. They also approved the county holiday schedule and claims and transfers for the monthly business.
