
Meade County Fiscal Court worked through their regular monthly business session Tuesday (2/12) night.
County leaders reviewed and approved the 2018 annual report of the Solid Waste Management Area and approved a slight rate increase from three to five cents per pound on out of county dumping rate at the recommendation of the Solid Waste Advisory Committee. The court also approved year renewal of the interlocal agreements with the Breckinridge and Hancock Counties and the City Of Irvington for recycling.
Magistrates approved the name change of Sam’s Way from Overlook Terrace in the city of Brandenburg which will correct a duplicate name in the county address master street guide. The Brandenburg City Council approved the name change at a previous meeting. The court approve the recommendation of the county Planning and Zoning Commission for a zoning change request at 328 White Rose Road and a uniform cellular application by Bluegrass Cellular for a new tower on Mooreman Road. The court voted to table action on a zoning change request by Kosmos-Cemex in the Big Bend area until they have time to review all of the impacts of the request. County leaders are expected to revisit the issue at their March regular meeting.
Jailer J.J. Scarborough requested approval of a credit card dedicated for jail use. After some discussion the court approved a card with a limit of up to $2,500 with the terms of operations of the cared to be worked out with the Judge Executive and the County Treasurer. The court approved the jail deputies to use blue emergency lights on the seven detention center vehicles. Jailer Scarbourgh advised the court that some plumbing repairs were needed to be made in the detention center as the building ages between the original building built in 1974 and the newer addition that is now twenty years old. He said that he would start looking into getting bids and estimates on some the repairs that the department of corrections are noting in their inspections to present back to the court.
Magistrates approved a resolution to allow the Sheriff’s Department to apply for Homeland Security grants for equipment. After a twenty minute closed session to discuss personnel, the court voted to eliminate a part time position at the Solid Waste and Recycling Center.
