
Members of the Brandenburg City Council welcomed Tim Childs as the new School Resource Officer for the Brandenburg Police during their regular meeting Monday (6/13) night.
Childs has previously worked for the Muldraugh Police Department for the past five and half years. He is the first school resource officer employed by the Brandenburg Police Department. Childs was sworn into the position by Mayor Ronnie Joyner at the beginning of the meeting with his wife and children beside of him. His wife, Ashley pinned his newly assigned badge to his uniform. Police Brian Hagg said that Childs will begin his school resource officer training in August and when school is dismissed, he will be on the street in normal patrol duties.
Council members recognized JC Rhodes at 1369 Old State Road as the June recipient of the Yard of the Month. The council conducted the first reading of Planning and Zoning ordinances amending the Permitted Uses to include micro and nano breweries and the rezoning of 830 Old Ekron Road requested by Sandra Brown. The second reading of the permitted uses amendment is scheduled during a special called meeting to be held at 12 Noon Friday (6/17).
Council members heard and approved the second reading of ordinances amending the current year budget and adopting the proposed 2022-23 fiscal year budget. Councilman Bradley Johnson voted against adopting the 2022-23 Budget. They also approved the second reading of an ordinance amending water rates for the upcoming year. The water rates will set min price of $13.17 for 2,000 gallons or less for in water inside the city limits while the minimum rate will be $20.30 for water customers outside of the city limits. It also adjusts connection fees for new water services to $1,500 for residential connection per meter and $800 for commercial water connections per meter set in side of city limits. Outside water connections the fess adjust to $1,800 for residential connections and $1,100 for commercial connections.
Council members approved a request by Mayor Joyner to move forward on a line of credit that could turn into a loan of $1 million for the water treatment plant upgrade. Council member Bryan Claycomb was able to get the details arranged so city leaders can move quickly before interest rate increase due to inflation. The plan would be only use what city needs for expenses and pay off the loan without further rate increases.
The council approved entering into a contract with GRW for the water plant upgrade and to rebid quote from Water Surplus for the project. The council also reviewed bidding the Main Street project with some modifications. Mayor Joyner said they hope project would be under $500,000 to allow the work to be done.
