A major crash on Interstate 65 southbound near the 86 mile marker early Tuesday morning resulted in the death of one person.
Sgt. Travis Cook of the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department said the driver of a semi-truck apparently did not see another semi-truck in front of him had stopped because of the construction, and collided with the stopped vehicle.
Preliminary investigation shows the driver of the moving truck did nothing to avoid the collision, so Cook said it is likely he did not notice the stopped vehicle.
A third semi-truck, which also was stopped in construction traffic, was impacted by the collision to its rear.
The truck that caused the collision caught on fire, which resulted in all lanes of traffic being closed for several hours. The lanes reopened late Tuesday morning.
The driver of the truck that initially impacted the others died and a passenger in the cab of that truck was sent to Louisville with life threatening injuries.
The driver of the second truck was sent to Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the third truck was uninjured.
