The Brandenburg City Council worked through several items of business during their regular meeting Monday (3/11) evening.
Meade County Grant Writer Jordan Wilson provided the council an update on grants that have been applied for on behalf of the city. Wilson said work is underway for applying for funds of $100,000 for engineering and site survey work for a 550 foot section of the river bank in Riverfront Park. He said local leaders have already met with the Army Corps of Engineers about the issue and some paper work began on the issue. The work will provide a detail specification of what needs to be done to stop the erosion of the river bank. Wilson also reported to the council that he has applied for a Kentucky Fish & Wildlife grant to rehabilitate and widen the old boat dock at an estimated cost of $150,000 to $250,000. The scope of the project would allow up to 3 or 4 boats to launch and repair the existing ramp.
The council also heard and reviewed the presentation of the audit of city funds for the fiscal year 2022-23. Representatives of SK Lee CPAs, PSC provided a clean audit on the city’s funds. The audit showed the city had $1.2 million in growth. The council unanimously approved the audit.
Council members heard and approved the second reading of an ordinance for a zoning map amendment on property owned by Jason Humphrey. They also heard the first reading of a ordinance to adopt the Kentucky Model Procurement Code which are the guidelines that used to bid services from vendors. The city has already been using the guidelines and the ordinance is to make the practice official policy for the city.
The council reviewed and approved a list items as surplus property which is set to be auctioned on April 27. Mayor David Pace showed the council updated the plans for a proposed water tower that will be built along Mooreman Road. He said the 250,000 gallon structure would service the eastern side of the city and help relieve pressure on the two existing water towers. The project would be funded with a Lincoln Trail Area Development grant once the current water plant loan is paid off. He said the first step is to get the paper work approved by the state which could take up to a year and funding should be in place to begin the project.
The council met during a short closed session to discuss possible litigation and returned to approve Mayor Pace to sign a change order related to the waste water treatment plant.
