Members of the Meade County Ethics Commission met for a called meeting Monday (4/22) evening.
The commission discussed the selection of legal council to provide legal guidance and to represent their interest in the process related to a ethics complaint that was filed in March. The commission selected a list of four attorneys to discuss their needs with under the $1,500 cap that was set by Meade County Fiscal Court.
Commission Secretary Sam Melloy said that he had received the response mid afternoon from Attorney Doug Vowels, who represents the official that the complaint is against. During the commission’s discussion it was noted that the attached articles with Vowels’ response did not properly print from the attachments and the email itself was too large to transmit electronically. Vowels asked the commission if he could directly mail the documents to each member along with the complainant’s attorney. The commission agreed to the suggestion due to their lack of legal council.
Commissioners voted to schedule a meeting on May 13 in order for the commission to discuss the submitted documents already received related to complaint. They also set a tentative date of June 24 to possibly conduct a hearing of related to the complaint.
The details of the ethics complaint have not revealed and will not be public until after the commission’s findings have been determined.
