Brandenburg City Council met Tuesday (08/27) evening with all five members present.
The purpose of the meeting was to fill the vacant council seat after the death of Councilman William “Bill” Basham earlier this month. There were six potential candidates present and each one was given a chance to explain to the council why they were interested in serving on the council.
After hearing all the candidates speak, three of the candidates were nominated. The council voted by paper ballot for the candidate of their choice and the votes were tallied by City Attorney Jessica Brown-Roberts. Rhonda Allen received three votes, while Yolanda Clark and Grant Wiles received one vote each.
Following the meeting, Rhonda Allen was sworn in by City Attorney Jessica Brown-Roberts and will serve for the next four months as a council member.
The next meeting of the council will be a special called meeting on September 3, 2024 at the Meade County Fairgrounds Home & Garden Building at 5:30 p.m. for the purpose to continue discussion related to the purposed occupational tax. You can listen to the entire special meeting in our “On Demand” section.
