AAA spokesperson Nick Chabarria says it is crucial to remember that cleaning your vehicle of snow and ice before pulling out on the road is a matter of safety for yourself and other drivers.
Even small amounts of snow or ice can obstruct your view, significantly impacting your ability to see or be seen, leading to dangerous situations, such as reduced visibility, sudden loss of control and an increased risk of accidents.
Snow and ice can block your windshield, side windows and even headlights and taillights, hindering your vision.
Ice and snow can dislodge from your vehicle while driving, potentially blinding other drivers.
Chabarria said start your vehicle up when it is outside in your drive way, run the wind shield deforester, and the rear defroster if you have one. Then start working on getting that ice off your windows and snow off of the body of your vehicle. For those that have SUVs or vans or taller vehicles that may be hard to reach the roof, a great idea is to use a push broom or any kind of broom with a long handle on it so you can actually push that snow and ice off your roof.
Chabarria says it is not just about avoiding fines but it is about ensuring the safety of yourself and everyone else on the road.
