A Northeastern Kentucky man has been sentenced for crimes against children.
Attorney General Russell Coleman announced Friday that action from the Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Unit helped convict 76-year-old Chester Griffith.
The Carter County native received a recommended eight-year sentence for crimes against children under the age of 16.
According to the release, Griffith pleaded guilty to two felony counts of first-degree sexual abuse and two counts of first-degree criminal attempt to commit sexual abuse for two additional victims under the age of twelve on January 23.
He is not eligible for probation and will be a lifetime registrant on the Kentucky Sex Offender Registry. A 10-year Interpersonal Protective Order (IPO) will also be entered for the four victims.
A Carter County Grand Jury initially indicted him in February 2023 and then again, on an additional charge, in April of that year.
Kentucky State Police investigated the case, while Deputy Executive Director of the Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Unit Ramsey Dallam and Assistant Attorney General Todd Willard prosecuted the case on behalf of the state.
Erica Paske with the Attorney General’s Office of Victim Advocacy worked with the victims.
