The man who hoarded explosives and other hazardous materials inside of his home has received his sentence.
Marc Hibel pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal trespassing, one count of wanton endangerment and one count of possession of a controlled substance, and for those crimes, a judge sentenced him Tuesday to five years of probation. Hibel will serve no time in prison.
That sentence was handed down after numerous delays in sentencing.
Both the Commonwealth and Hibel’s defense attorneys agreed that he posed no legitimate threat to the public and that he has proven that since his arrest in 2023.
This is a big break for Hibel. He could have spent as many as three years in prison after police found multiple improvised explosives and hazardous chemicals inside of his home on Applegate Lane.
Hibel’s home was later demolished and now sits as an empty plot.
Hibel will have to keep going to mental health treatment to stay out of jail, and he has to stay off controlled substances.
The Commonwealth seemed open to the idea of decreasing his probation early, to unsupervised probation if he continues with good behavior and treatment.
