Students and staff at North Hardin High School were placed in a hard lockdown Wednesday morning after a student was thought to have a weapon on the campus.
According to John Wright, spokesman for the Hardin County Schools, the lockdown was issued at 10 a.m. after a report was received about a student with a weapon. A Hardin County deputy sheriff, who serves as the school resource officer, responded and called for backup from Radcliff police.
Wright said the lockdown was lifted at 10:15 a.m. after officers were able to locate and detain the student. It was determined the student did not have a weapon and thought they were playing a joke.
The district said during the hard lockdown no students were permitted to leave their classrooms and all students and staff were secured.
The student will face charges in accordance with the law and the Hardin County Schools Code of Acceptable Behavior and Discipline.
