Louisville Metro Police are asking the public to beware of a phone scam targeting Kentuckians.
According to Louisville Metro Police Department, someone has been pretending to be officers from the department or another law enforcement agency. The scammer would tell the unsuspecting person they have a warrant issued for a missed court date, not showing up for jury duty or an overdue fine.
They would then tell the victim they would be arrested unless they paid money right away or the U.S. Marshals would come and get them. The scammers would demand fines or fees be paid with money, credit cards, gift cards, payment apps or cryptocurrency.
Louisville Metro Police Department advises everyone not to provide personal details or financial information and to simply hang up.
If you believe you may have been a victim, Louisville Metro Police asks you to call their tip line at (502) 574-LMPD or file a police report online.
