The Kentucky State Board of Elections has removed more than 225,000 ineligible voter registrations as part of a legally mandated process to maintain accurate records.
State and federal law require the removal of voters who have been inactive for at least two federal elections. Officials say the process follows strict legal guidelines to ensure no eligible voters are removed simply for not voting.
Voters whose registrations were canceled had received multiple notices before removal, and those affected can re-register if needed.
The removals impacted voters across party lines, with 44% removed being Democrats, 42.5% Republicans, and 13.5% listed under other affiliations.
Since January 2019, the state has removed more than 734,000 voter registrations for various reasons. Officials say this ensures accurate records and maintains public confidence in the election process.
If you were purged, you can re-register at elect.ky.gov or govote.ky.gov. Either site will provide your voter information.
The State Board of Elections encourages voters to check their status well before upcoming elections to ensure they remain registered and eligible to vote.
