A former U.S. Army soldier has been found guilty of first-degree manslaughter in the death of his wife after her birthday party in June 2023 in Hardin County.
The manslaughter conviction coming as a lesser charge to the murder charge he was facing. An official sentencing date has not been set yet.
Jordan Henning killed his wife, Ashley, on her birthday in 2023. The entire incident, including an argument that preceded the shooting and the shooting itself, was caught on a home video camera.
When the trial resumed on Thursday, the defense began with their closing. They described Henning’s emotions as a bucket, with each account of his wife, Ashley, verbally or physically abusing him as a constant drip until his bucket overflowed.
“Jordan lost control. He snapped. He broke. Period,” Defense Attorney Roger Rigney said.
“How did he think reckless homicide would help his career?” Rigney continued. “It wasn’t. If he was in his right mind and in control of the situation that night and not suffering from extreme emotional disturbance, why would he do this in front of the cameras he helped install? Think about that.”
“There is no evidence she was a threat to him,” Eric Carr, Hardin County Assistant Commonwealth Attorney said.
Police say Jordan shot his wife five times after a heated argument. The Commonwealth Attorneys believe the evidence is clear. The fatal moment between the couple was caught on camera. They disagree with the self-defense claim.
“If what you saw on that video is not evil and malicious, I don’t know what is,” Carr said.
Jurors were asked to determine if Jordan Henning is guilty or not guilty of murder, first or Second-degree manslaughter, or reckless homicide.
The jury has recommended a the maximum sentence of 20 years.
