An Uber driver is accused of sexually assaulting an intoxicated passenger in Richmond.
According to a criminal complaint, 61-year-old Clifford E. Partin is charged with first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy.
Police say the incident happened in August after the victim left a party on High Street and requested an Uber due to her level of intoxication.
The complaint states that shortly after the ride began, the victim lost consciousness. She later awoke to find the vehicle parked in a secluded section of a parking lot on Lantern Ridge Drive in Richmond. She told police she demanded to be taken home and exited the vehicle a short distance from her home, where she then ran the rest of the way.
The victim later sought medical evaluation and contacted police.
Police say the GPS trip data from Uber aligned with the victim’s account, and surveillance footage from nearby businesses also reportedly confirmed the vehicle remained in a secluded area of the lot for approximately 25 minutes.
Partin was arrested on Monday and lodged in the Madison County Detention Center under a $100,000 cash bond.
According to the complaint, Partin admitted to sexual acts during an interview.
