A former Eastern Kentucky University professor accepted a plea agreement Wednesday in the 2019 death of his wife, avoiding a trial that was scheduled to begin this week.
Glenn Jackson entered an Alford plea, which allows a defendant to maintain innocence while acknowledging sufficient evidence exists for a conviction.
Jackson pleaded to reduced charges of manslaughter, abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence. Murder charges were originally filed against him in April 2020.
Jackson faced charges in April 2020 after investigators found a large amount of blood in his vehicle’s trunk during a search of the couple’s residence.
Ella Jackson went missing from her Richmond home in October 2019. Her remains were found more than a year later in Pulaski County.
The case experienced numerous setbacks over six years, including pandemic-related court shutdowns, forensics laboratory delays, judicial recusals and new evidence discoveries.
Prosecutors are seeking a 14-year prison term as part of the plea agreement. Jackson could potentially be released in under eight years when factoring in time already served.
Jackson has been free since 2020 after his bond was reduced to $150,000.
