The Brandenburg City Council reviewed the past year of finances during their regular meeting Monday (3/9).
Sammie Lee of SK Lee CPA provided the council with a clean audit report and review of the city’s finances and assets. Lee said that city is good position with liquid funds and no issues related to compliance or procedures. During the review several questions were asked related to how the auditor came to certain totals depending upon the line item being reviewed. Lee said the only negative was the amount of reserved funds being held on the city’s ledgers related to retirement based upon state figures was something that every city has to deal with in case the state request payments to sure up the state retirement system.
In other business, the council approved the second reading of an ordinances 657 and 658. Ordinance 657 addresses the rezoning or property owned by Riverbran LLC. which creates the same zoning for the entire River Ridge Plaza. Ordinance 658 amends the Sign Ordinance #574 to allow only translucent window signage to cover the entire window surface of a business. Nothing else changed as a result of the amendment. Both ordinances were unanimously approved by the council.
City leaders heard the first reading of a ordinance for rezoning of property along High Street owned by Judy Jackson.
Police Chief Brian Hagg reported to the council that 60 accidents have been worked by the police department since January 1. He said that was an increase over the same time period last year. He also noted an increase in case files that have been opened by officers so far this year.
Mayor David Pace updated the council on ideas of installing new carpet in city to replaced damaged carpet from the recent cleaning. He also said pricing was being sought for possibly painting several areas in city hall. No action or commitments have been made on the project.
At the end of the meeting, Brian Chism voiced his concerns related to the process of a recently constructed maintenance shed was not presented to allow the public to bid on, even though the cost of the building was under the $40,000 threshold set by state law for procurement of services and materials. He also presented the council with documents he had received as a result of an open records request about the bid specs. Mayor Pace said the bid specs were appropriately complied and covered the size and materials needed for the structure.
