Former Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin has been sentenced after a judge found him in contempt of court.
Bevin’s estranged son, Jonah Bevin filed an emergency motion on March 16 to find Matt Bevin in contempt of court. The motion alleged Matt Bevin did not provide financial information that the court required him to submit as part of an ongoing legal battle.
Matt Bevin was sentenced to either 60 days in jail or a $500 fine by a Jefferson Family Court Judge on Tuesday. He must also produce financial documents that would show receipt of income.
Jonah Bevin has accused his parents of sending him to an abusive boarding school while he was a teenager, as well as saying he was emotionally and physically abused under Matt and Glenna Bevin’s guardianship. He also obtained an emergency protective order against Matt Bevin.
Matt Bevin attended the hearing virtually. In a notice filed on March 23, Bevin’s attorney stated that he would be unable to attend the hearing due to him being in Oklahoma for his ex-wife Glenna Bevin’s father’s funeral.
An order of arrest has been issued for Bevin.
