
Members of the Brandenburg City Council heard the first reading of the proposed 2026-27 budget during their regular meeting Monday (6/8) evening.
The proposed budget appropriations totals $6,087,850 and includes a proposed three percent salary increase for the recruiting and retention of employees and additional $1 per hour for all employees. The council also heard the first reading of an ordinance that will increase water and sewer rates by two percent. The water rates will increase to $19.46 for the first 2,000 gallons of water for water customers inside the city limits. Water rates for customers outside of city limits will increase to $27.01 for the first 2,000 gallons. The rate increase for sewer customers inside city limits will increase to $27.10 and $28.86 for customers outside of city limits.
Council members also heard the first reading of ordinances to amend the current fiscal year budget and to amend to reduce the percentages and rates for the city’s ABC ordinance. The council will hear the second reading of the ordinances and any further discussion before approval during a special called meeting to be held on Thursday, June 11 at 5 pm located at city hall.
In other business, the council approved the recommendation of appointing Todd Blackburn and David Pace to the Brandenburg-Meade County Industrial Authority on a 5 to 1 vote. Blackburn will fill the remain 2 years of the term held by Mitch Crump and Pace will serve an additional 3 year term. The council awarded the June “Yard of The Month” to Doris Snawder. City leaders approved City Clerk Amy Haynes as the designated FEMA Applicant Agent for recovery funds related to the flooding in April 2025. The city expecting to be reimbursed by about $6,000 of the $10,000 of incurred expenses during the event.
The council went into closed session for the purpose to discuss pending litigation pursuant to KRS 61.810 section 1 subsection C. After about a half hour, the council returned with no action taken during the closed session. City leaders conducted a public hearing at the beginning of the meeting for the LGEA and Municipal Road Aid funding. No public comments or input were received on the funding.
