The Kentucky Association of School Administrators has named Dr. Mark Martin, superintendent of Meade County Schools, as the 2027 Kentucky Superintendent of the Year, recognizing his visionary leadership, commitment to student success and service to public education across the Commonwealth.
The award was presented during Kentucky Association of School Administrators’ 2026 Annual Leadership Institute, held July 29–31 in Louisville. The Kentucky Superintendent of the Year honor recognizes a school system leader whose work demonstrates exceptional educational leadership, sound management and a sustained commitment to improving opportunities and outcomes for students.
Since becoming superintendent in 2020, Dr. Martin has guided his district through one of the most challenging periods in the history of public education by uniting staff, students and the community around a simple but powerful belief: Students First. Team Always. Under his leadership, student achievement has continued to rise, achievement gaps have narrowed and, for three consecutive years, the district has had no state or federal gap-group identifications—demonstrating a sustained commitment to ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed.
