A Kentucky man is facing more than 1,100 charges connected to an investigation into child sexual abuse material.
The Christian County Sheriff’s Office reports that the Crofton, Kentucky man was initially charged with possessing child sexual abuse material and now faces 1,134 counts after his phone was searched and more files were allegedly found.
Investigators say they obtained a search warrant for the phone of 44 year-old Arturo Cruz-Vargas on October 13. The sheriff’s office said the search uncovered more files, leading to 1,134 counts of possessing material portraying a sexual performance by a minor under 12 years old.
The original allegation involved a video said to depict a child younger than 12 engaged in sexual activity, according to Christian County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said Cruz-Vargas told investigators he downloaded the video while searching online for a friend’s son who he claimed had been kidnapped in Mexico years earlier.
