Bobby Meador, age 70 of Fountain Run, is facing a first-degree manslaughter charge in Allen County in the death of his 7-year-old granddaughter.
Investigators said the child was medically fragile, needed round-the-clock care and could not care for herself. The state medical examiner ruled she died from acute fentanyl intoxication on August 1, 2020.
Detectives said they determined the child was physically incapable of getting or taking fentanyl on her own.
The Allen County-Scottsville Crime Task Force reopened the case in September under Detective Robert Smith. After what they call an extensive investigation, they said first-degree manslaughter was the appropriate charge under Kentucky law, and they expect more charges.
The task force credited Allen County Sheriff Brandon Ford and Scottsville Police Chief Danny Wilson for launching the team to take a fresh look at serious and old cases. They also thanked the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, the South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force and Allen County Coroner Darren Davis for their work.
Meador is being held at the Warren County Regional Jail under a $50,000 cash bond, awaiting transport back to Allen County.
Officials emphasized that no victim should be forgotten and that all individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
