Four people were charged after officials said a woman tried to smuggle drugs into Louisville’s jail in a pair of dress shoes.
Detectives recovered 102 suspected Suboxone strips and about 32 grams of suspected methamphetamine during an operation on October 12, according to the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections.
Investigators believe the drugs were intended to be sold inside the jail.
According to Louisville Metro Department of Corrections, 30 year-old Breona Kannamore tried to bring the drugs into the facility in dress shoes intended for 33 year-old Joesph Hale, who was incarcerated at Louisville Metro Department of Correctons and scheduled to stand trial.
Detectives recovered the shoes before Hale received them.
Louisville Metro Department of Corrections estimated the suspected drugs could have been worth up to $50,000.
Kannamore was arrested. Hale, along with 29 year-old Kevon Lawless and 28 year-old Michael Bullock all of Louisville, were also charged. The three men are incarcerated at Louisville Metro Department of Corrections, according to officials.
All four face charges of trafficking in controlled substances, promoting contraband, criminal conspiracy and engaging in organized crime.
The operation involved LMDC’s Professional Standards Unit and K-9 Unit, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Kentucky Department of Corrections’ Roederer Correctional Complex Internal Affairs Department.
Louisville Metro Department of Corrections Chief Jerry Collins credited the agencies’ coordinated efforts with stopping the suspected drugs from reaching the jail.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials are considering additional charges.
