Money from a multimillion-dollar settlement in a Norton Healthcare lawsuit over a cyberattack in 2023 is being distributed.
Norton agreed to pay $11 million to resolve the class action lawsuit. Affected patients started receiving settlement money Thursday. Some got paid about $76. The money is being distributed through prepaid gift cards, Venmo or other methods, based on what patients selected when filling out compensation forms.
Norton said 2.5 million people were potentially impacted by the ransomware attack in May 2023. A hacker group called BlackCat claimed responsibility for the attack and leaked files of personal information as proof.
In a statement Friday, Norton Healthcare said the settlement was approved and “brings resolution” for those affected.
