A suspect was shot and killed after he pulled out a gun and pointed it at two U.S. Marshals during a traffic stop in Louisville Wednesday (2/10) morning.
The U.S. Marshals Service said the Western Kentucky Fugitive Task Force was attempting to take 41 year-old Timothy Vessels into custody in the 6400 block of Ladd Avenue just before Noon.
Vessels, who was in the passenger seat of the vehicle, refused to comply with commands and pointed a firearm at deputies, according to the Marshals Service. Two U.S. Marshals fired at Vessels in response to the threat.
Vessels was pronounced dead at the scene.
At the time of the shooting Vessels was on federal supervised release with pending violations and was wanted in Jefferson County for possession of a firearm and forced burglary.
The U.S. Marshals Service said Vessels has a criminal history that includes arrests for federal narcotics violations and possession/sale of firearms.
A woman who was with Vessels was taken into custody on active warrants.
The Marshals office is the lead agency on the case. LMPD is assisting them. LMPD’s public integrity unit is also part of the investigation.
