Governor Matt Bevin signed the abortion bill Thursday (2/11/16) morning after being passed by the legislature.
Supporters packed the Capitol Rotunda to celebrate the signing of the “Informed Consent” bill. It requires women to meet in person or by video with a physician at least 24 hours before an abortion to talk about risks and options.
Previously, some physicians got around the rule by allowing patients to listen to a phone message.
Critics say it’s a burden on a woman’s “right to choose.”
The “Informed Consent” bill is the first to clear the legislature this year. It passed with bi-partisan support.
