A home on O’Reilly-Tate Lane in Hardinsburg was heavily damaged after an explosion Wednesday morning.
According to Fire Chief Raleigh Shelton, the owner, Marilyn Miller, returned to her home to find smoke in the house and a window blown out. When the first units arrived on the scene, they discovered heavy smoke in the basement and evidence of an explosion. The home was ventilated and utilities were disconnected. The explosion damaged windows and doors, as well as an upper wall of the home.
Further investigation indicates that a propane leak allowed gas to build to explosive levels in the basement. The blast actually blew the fire out.
No one was home when the explosion occurred and there were no injuries. Firefighters were on scene for about 2 hours.
The Hardinsburg Police Department, Meade County R.E.C.C. and Hardinsburg Municipal Utilities assisted at the scene.
