Omer Ahmetovic made his first appearance in court Thursday for the shooting death of Dr. Juan Gonzalez.
Ahmetovic and his attorney entered a not guilty plea.
An amended lawsuit had been filed March 2 by Ahmetovic and his wife, Fikreta Ibrisevic, against Dr. Gonzalez. Gonzalez was found dead March 3.
The lawsuit claims negligence, fraud and concealment, battery, lack of informed consent, violation of the KY Consumer Protection Act, loss of consortium of spouse and children, practicing medicine without a license, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Ahmetovic and his wife said they went to Gonzalez seeking a natural treatment of her cancer while they awaited chemo and radiation. They say Gonzalez “guaranteed” he could “100%” cure her cancer.
The couple proceeded to spend upwards of $7,000 on herbal treatments and other services with Gonzalez.
The couple said the herbs Gonzalez gave her reached toxic levels, spiking her tumors from one, to seven.
The couple said Gonzalez inserted his fingers into Ibrisevic’s vagina, trying to feel the original tumor, and that this was unwanted, and done without consent.
After one round of traditional cancer treatment, the couple said the tumors went back down from 7 to one.
Fikreta Ibrisevic died February 27 at the Medical Center.
A preliminary hearing was set for 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 15. His bond was set at $1 million cash.
