A Bowling Green man is facing burglary and sexual abuse charges after police say he forced his way into his ex-girlfriend’s home and attempted to assault her.
According to an arrest citation from Bowling Green police, officers responded Thursday afternoon to a residence on Loop Street after a woman reported her ex-boyfriend had broken into her home.
The woman told police the man, identified as 39 year-old Alberto Vazquez-Hernandez, arrived at her home around 2 p.m., repeatedly knocked on the front door and was told to leave. He then went to the back of the residence and forced entry by breaking the exterior lock, according to the citation.
Once inside, police say Vazquez-Hernandez went to the victim’s bedroom, told her he “wanted to be with her one last time,” and attempted to pull down her pants. The woman called for her son, who entered the room, prompting Vazquez-Hernandez to flee the home.
The suspect left the scene in a black Dodge Ram truck, the report states.
Officers later located the vehicle at a residence on Oak Grove Way. Police say Vazquez-Hernandez was seen entering the home and initially refused to come outside. Authorities obtained a search warrant, and with assistance from crisis negotiators and a critical response team, took him into custody.
During an interview with investigators, Vazquez-Hernandez said he had gone to the residence earlier in the day to retrieve belongings and returned later to inform the victim. He told police he believed the back door was unsecured and said he was let inside by the victim’s son, according to the citation.
He also told officers he ran from police because he feared being arrested and “was trying to avoid immigration,” the report states.
Vazquez-Hernandez was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary and third-degree sexual abuse. He was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail under a $10,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 22.
