A water line break in Brandenburg caused interruptions to several businesses and water customers during the the lunch time of Monday (4/9).
According to Brandenburg Public Works, a water leak was discovered near Langdon Apartments Monday morning and as crews were gathering equipment to begin repairs they received a call that the leak had grew in size. As crews began to make the necessary repairs, a rock ruptured a four foot section of pipe causing the water service along Old Ekron from near the Bypass to Howard Drive and Armory Place to be shut off. The approximate 45 customers received hand delivered notices of the boil water advisory once the water was restored.
The lack of water impacted the majority of the restaurants in town along with the River Ridge Plaza and the Stuart Pepper Middle School for a couple of hours. A few hours later a second water leak was discovered just down the street in the affected area. Public work officials believe that the breaks are a result of the deep saturated ground which has begun to settle in some locations which is causing the soil around the water lines to move changing weight of teh ground on the piping.
Water customers in the affected area remain under a boil water advisory until further notice.
