
Kentucky State Police Post 4 detectives are conducting a murder investigation in the Garfield community of Breckinridge County.
Just after 1 a.m. Thursday (8/06) Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the Kentucky State Police in Elizabethtown with a death investigation at 257 Blackberry Circle Lane in Garfield.
When the detectives arrived it was determined 45 year-old Steven R. Gann of Garfield and 26 year-old Jacob R. Loeffler of Elizabethtown had been shot multiple times and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Breckinridge County Coroner’s Office.
With the assistance of the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office, detectives were able to locate the suspect, 28 year-old Montez D. Johnson of Louisville, at an apartment complex on Ledgewood Parkway in Louisville. Kentucky State Police’s Special Response Team responded to the scene and with the assistance of Louisville Metro Police Department’s SWAT team was able to apprehend Johnson without further incident.
Johnson was charged with murder and was later lodged in the Breckinridge Detection Center.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday at the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville for Gann and Loeffler.
Kentucky State Police Troopers and Detectives were assisted at the scene by the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office, Hardinsburg Police Department, Irvington Police Department, Louisville Metro Police Department, Breckinridge County EMS and the Breckinridge County Coroner’s Office.
