
The Brandenburg City Council approved 2023 tax rates during their regular meeting Monday (8/8) night.
The Council heard the first reading of ordinances which take the compensating rate adjustments setting the real property tax rate at 0.207 cents per $100 of accessed value, personal property 0.3945 cents per $100 of accessed value and 0.3280 cents per $100 of accessed value on motor vehicle and watercraft. A second reading of the ordinances will be held during the regular September meeting.
In other business, the council heard and approved a resolution to apply for a Community Development Block Grant through the Lincoln Trail Area Development District for water line upgrade project along Lawrence Street. The estimated cost of the project is $950,000, with the grant funding $790,000 of the cost with the city of Brandenburg providing the remain $159,000. A public hearing was held prior to the meeting regarding the scope of the project with no members of the public to speak on the issue.
City leaders heard and approved the City Planning and Zoning the first reading of an ordinance to amend the residential code and electrical inspections fee schedule. The council also heard and approved on a 5-4 vote the second reading of an rezoning ordinance for the property at 644 Broadway.
Council members heard the first reading of a proposed Yard/ Garage Sale ordinance. The council first discussed the issue plaguing of repetitive yard and garage sales with city limits. The proposed ordinance would require residents to register their sale with city hall and set a limit of sales to three a year. Council members provided mixed input on the issue during their discussion. The ordinance will likely be revised before the second reading at the next regular city council meeting.
