
A Guston teenager was killed after a head-on accident in Muldraugh Monday (12/4) night.
According to Kentucky State Police, the accident happened around 11 PM at the intersection of US 31W & Kentucky 1638 in Muldraugh. Upon the findings of the preliminary investigation revealed that 18 year-old Kristian Cottrell of Guston was operating a Ford Focus south on US 31W, when he ran the red light at the intersection and struck a Ford Econoline van head-on.
At the time of the collision, the van was sitting stationary in the northbound turning lane operated by 52 year-old Denise Thompson of Brandenburg who was attempting to turn left onto Old Mill Road. Cottrell was pronounced dead at the scene by the Meade County Coroner. Thompson was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Traffic was affected on US 31W for several hours to allow troopers to reconstruct the collision. State Police was also assisted at the scene by the Meade County Sheriff’s Office, Meade County EMS, and the Muldraugh Fire Department. The collision remains under investigation.
